Hania Mroue, Director of the Metropolis Association and Rémi Bonhomme, board member of the Metropolis Association and Programme manager of the Semaine de la Critique, will present 10 short films and 7 feature films, including a Shorts Program on Wednesday 9th of July 2014.

The Semaine de la Critique’s mission, since its very beginnings, has been to discover young emerging talents by shedding light on the first or second feature films of filmmakers from all around the globe.

I watched Yesterday two  movies, the first one “True Love Story” an animation by Gitanjali Rao, is a journey through the seductive, treacherous streets of Bombay… A painted ode to romance.

The second “RESPIRE” by Mélanie Laurent, is a 2014 French drama film based on the novel of the same name by Anne-Sophie Brasme.

Charlie (Josephine Japy) is a 17-year-old girl in her final year of school, who is immediately taken with the new girl in her class, Sarah (Lou de Laage), whose mother, an NGO worker in Nigeria, has sent her to France to graduate. They become firm friends, the wilder, more outgoing Sarah liberating the rather quieter Charlie, even going on holiday together. But during that holiday their relationship, to that point a halcyon blur of sudden conspiratorial fits of laughter, and holding each other’s hair back when vomiting, starts to take on a darker tinge, slowly becoming infected with jealousy and possessiveness. They grow wary of each other, Charlie confused and unsure of her feelings toward Sarah, and Sarah nursing secrets of her own, until eventually this wariness turns to all-out psychological warfare, waged by Sarah, and seemingly masochistically absorbed by Charlie.

The movies were deeply interesting, if you’re a movie addict and you like movies with a twist, you should watch any of the movies shown between the 30th of June to the 9th of July 2014. All screenings start at 8:30PM
