EL IXIR Wine Tasting

I attend a special EL wine tasting at Enoteca in Tabaris. We had the pleasure to taste IXSIR‘s micro Cuvée in both, white and red: EL White 2012 and EL Red 2010.

I tasted first the EL White 2012

el ixir white

EL White 2012

The subtle complexity of this wine distinguishes its elegant and delicate aromas of flowers combined with white fleshy fruits, infused herbs and spices.

On the palate, the purity of a great Viognier blended with the richness of the Chardonnay, offers an unctuous and full-bodied wine with exceptional elegance, minerality and depth.

And then I tried to the EL Red 2010

el ixir - rouge

EL Red 2010

Good color and a subtle nuanced nose of ripe blackberries with a hint of spice.

In the mouth there is an instant lushness, backed up with a wonderful freshness. It has an elegant structure and a finish that is powerful, sustained and balanced.

Despite its youth, it’s already a pleasurable experience to taste. It triumphs with a seductive combination of classicism and hedonism. Although it can be savored now, it could very well reach full maturity in 2017 and age thereafter until 2030.

My favorite was the EL White 2012!

10 reasons why you should be drinking Rooibos Tea

Most of you know that I am a tea freak! Everywhere I go, I keep searching for new flavors and combinations to try. But this time I had a full box delivered to my desk, the best gift anyone can ever offer. It was a Dilmah wooden box full of 5 different tea flavors: Earl grey, Naturally Zesty Lemon, Pure Green, Pure Peppermint leaves and Organic Rooibos.

miraval 012

I hadn’t try the Rooibos flavor before, but it turned out to be a really magnificent plant, here’s why…

Rooibos, meaning “red bush”; is a broom-like member of the legume family of plants growing in South Africa’s fynbos.

The leaves are used to make an herbal tea called Rooibos or bush tea. The product has been popular in Southern Africa for generations and is now consumed in many countries.

Rooibos is becoming more popular, particularly among health-conscious consumers, due to these 10 amazing health benefits. Pay attention ladies to benefit #8 😉

1- Caffeine Free:

The rooibos plant grows naturally without any caffeine. This is important, as it means it does not need to undergo a chemical process to remove the caffeine. It also means that anyone can drink it, including those who do not want to drink caffeine such as children & pregnant women. The other key benefit of no caffeine is that rooibos tea can be consumed in unrestricted amounts.

2- Contains powerful antioxidants

Rooibos tea contains a wide array of antioxidants, which help to protect the body in a number of ways. Two polyphenol antioxidants called aspalathin and nothofagin are found in high concentrations in rooibos tea. These antioxidants protect the body by fighting free radicals. These are unstable cells, which attack healthy cells in order to stabilize themselves. The polyphenols also have anti-inflammatory properties and can safeguard against heart disease.

3- Prevents against some cancers

Some studies have demonstrated a link between consumption of rooibos tea and a reduction of cancer-causing chemicals. This is because of the high level of dominant antioxidants, some of which have anti-mutagenic (anti-cancer) properties. This means that they defend cells & DNA against damage and inhibit them from developing into cancer.

4- High mineral content

One of the key health benefits of rooibos tea is that it contains several minerals that are vital to health. These include: magnesium (essential for the nervous system), calcium & manganese (essential for strong teeth and bones), zinc (important for metabolism) and iron (critical for helping blood & muscles distribute oxygen).

5- Improves circulation

One of the many potent antioxidants in rooibos tea is called Chysoeriol. It can improve circulation by preventing the activity of the enzyme that triggers cardiovascular disease. Drinking rooibos tea also has been known to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

6- Relieves stomach complaints

As rooibos tea contains high levels of flavonoids, especially one called quercetin. It has the ability to relieve numerous abdominal ailments such as cramps, diahorrea and indigestion. Flavonoids are known help to reduce spasm, inflammation and allergies. It has also been widely stated that the health benefits of rooibos tea extend to alleviating colic in babies. As it is totally caffeine free, it is perfectly safe for them to drink rooibos tea.

7. Aids absorption of iron

Unlike most black teas, which prevent the body from absorbing iron effectively because of the tannins they contain, rooibos tea supports the body in absorbing iron. Rooibos tea contains less than half the tannins of black tea.

8. Can relieve skin conditions

A recent found that rooibos tea can help you to look more beautiful! Rooibos tea contains phenylpyretic acid, which can help to improve acne, psoriasis and eczema. You can apply a freshly brewed and cooled tea bag to the affected areas and it will soothe and heal any inflammation.

9. Can protect against Parkinsons/Alzheimers disease

Drinking rooibos tea regularly can protect against a process known as lipid peridoxation. This occurs when free radicals damage brain cells and nerve tissue. If this is prolonged, it can lead eventually to progressive and deteriorating brain disease, such as Alzheimer’s.

10. Encourages restful sleep

Rooibos is unique in that it can be consumed as often as you wish and at any time of day. Many people choose to drink it before bedtime as it can help with insomnia. Due to its high mineral content and lack of caffeine, it’s known to help people to feel calm and relaxed.

Did you have the chance to taste it?

Will you add the Rooibos tea to your morning ritual?

Miraval Rosé 2013

I attended last Wednesday, the wine tasting of Miraval Rosé 2013, that took place in Enoteca,Tabaris.

miraval 002

The Provençal rosé, is owned by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. It is produced on the 150 acres of vineyards at the Chateau Miraval, the South of France estate that they purchased for $60 million in 2008.

The Vintage

In 2013, the winter was long and dry followed by a cold and wet Spring and important climatic variations up until harvest. Thanks to a lot of hard work in the vineyard throughout the year, the grapes reached perfect maturity. The 2013 vintage is characterized by a low yield but is very promising.

miraval 004

The Process

The grapes are harvested exclusively in the morning and sorted twice. Destemming. Pressurage direct for Cinsault, Grenache and Rolle. The Syrah is vinifies partially using the “saignee” method. Vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel vats (95%) and in barrels (5%) with batonnage.

The Miraval Rosé is great to have outdoors with sunny, good weather. As far as food, it’s good to have it with raw salmon, raw tuna or maybe a Niçoise salad.

IXSIR Wine Tasting at La Cave De Joel Robuchon

I was invited to a wine tasting at La Cave De Joel Robuchon in Beirut Souks, and the famous wine was “IXSIR”.

IXSIR cultivates its wine grapes in several different zones, including Batroun in the North, Jezzine in the South, and the Bekaa Valley in the East.

IXSIR produces a wide spectrum of grape varieties, from Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tempranillo, Caladoc, and Viognier, Muscat (grape and wine), Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Sémillon.

Here’s a small brief on their products:

RED, 2009
Enrobed in black cherry, with dark red reflections, this wine unleashes fresh aromas that vary between red and black fruits, with a touch of oak. Its unique assemblage gives the wine a supple and delicate character where blackcurrant and blackberry merge.

ROSE, 2012
Recalling the region of Provence, this wine has a marble pink robe with peony reflections revealing an intense bouquet of gooseberry and vine leaves. With its suave, fruity, and crispy palate, it will arouse the admiration of anyone passionate about authentic rosé wines.

WHITE, 2012
Presenting an elegant swirl of golden glittering robe, this wine breathes a bouquet of floral aromas with hints of Muscat and notes of grapefruit. With its floral and fruity blend, coupled with a sharp and crispy palate, this balanced wine reveals nice mouth freshness.

RED, 2009
Rich in minerals and saturated with Mediterranean character, this wine unleashes exuberant aromas of mature fruits and spices. Its concentrated taste enrobed in a fine texture gives it an attractive liveliness, while its rich and mellow yet always-complex palate lasts until the final touch of fruit.

WHITE, 2012
The eye is seduced by its pure golden hue. The nose is enticed by an explosion of white flowers, peach and citrus fruits. The palate is enthralled by a nice equilibrium between mellowness and liveliness that leaves a final, equally wooden taste, which gives the wine a highly distinctive character.

RED, 2009
EL is the supreme cuvée of IXSIR. Its roots are deeply anchored in the historic Lebanese mountains praised for producing some of the best wines throughout antiquity.

I tasted the white wine from the Altitudes range and it was fresh, with a fruity taste. Perfect for summer!

Which is your favorite?
