Guest Post: 8 Tips To Stay Healthy During The Holidays

Guest post by: Fares Saad Professional Fitness Coach at Healthy Lifestyle

The holidays are one of the toughest times of year when it comes to your nutrition plan.
We have holiday parties, temptations at the office and who knows what else to deal with.

That being said, you do NOT have to just accept the fact that you are going to pack on the fat during the holidays. I hear a lot of people talking this way and it blows my mind!
They say – “oh I’ll just burn off the calories I ate at the party last night in today’s workout” (nice try – not going to happen) or “there’s nothing I can do … I’ll just start fresh in 2015″ (not true).

But you can be tougher if you follow these tips

1- Be realistic

Don’t try to lose weight during the holidays, instead try to maintain your current weight.

2- Never go with an empty stomach

Never go to a party or for shopping while you’re hungry. This will only cause you to eat more throughout the night. Try to have a small snack before attending so you aren’t ravenous when you arrive.

3- Don’t skip your workouts

Most people have a little extra time available over the holiday season when they are not at work. Take this opportunity to hit the gym and exercise. This will help to burn off the excess calories and fat consumed over this period.

4- Stock up on healthy snacks

When you go shopping, be sure to pick with you some healthy snacks like fresh or dried fruits, sports bars and raw nuts.

5- Eat until you are satisfied

Don’t eat until you’re stuffed. Savor your favorite holiday treats while eating small portions. Sit down, get comfortable, and enjoy.

6- Drink plenty of water

Many people believe that mild dehydration may feel like hunger and the best way to avoid becoming dehydrated to drink plenty of water. You can also use water to slow down your eating by taking a sip or two between bites. Wine and cocktails can be a lot of fun, but they can also cause a lot of problems for your waistline. Have a glass or two of water before you start drinking alcoholic beverages, and have one in between drinks to slow down your alcohol consumption as well.

7- Act like an accountant

If you overeat at one meal go light on the next. It takes 500 calories per day (or 3,500 calories per week) above your normal/maintenance consumption to gain one pound. It is impossible to gain weight from one piece of cheese cake!

8- Be careful with Desserts

There is no one that will tell you to give up desserts at holidays.  Desserts are a huge part of what make the season so amazing.  But consuming too much of anything is a bad thing. First of all, if you know you’re going to be parked at the dessert table, modify the rest of your menu.  Load up on the lighter foods like your grilled vegetables, and salads.

Cooking with Annette’s

I was invited with a bunch of fellow bloggers to discover the world of Annette’s through a cooking session that took place at the KitchenLab in Gemmayze.

We waited until we were all gathered, we all wore the chef’s hat and apron and we were ready to start the cooking experience.

With the help of the chef, we used Annette’s flour to create a dough for our zaatar mankouche. while waiting for it be baked, the chef prepared pasta with tomato sauce and an exquisite strawberry tart.

When all the dishes were ready, we all sat and enjoyed a healthy dinner together!

Annette’s high-quality, low carbohydrate flour and products are the fine result of two years working alongside an international team of doctors and food technologists, to provide the best in quality.

The refined taste and premium healthy ingredients, especially developed for those with type 2 diabetes, are what makes them unique.

Thank you Annette’s and KitchenLab for this unique and wonderful experience! It was great to know that I can still enjoy my favorite meals with less carbs to stay fit!

Tasting Lord Of The Wings New Menu!

I was invited to a tweetup to try the new menu at Lord Of the Wings in Kaslik.

We were offered around 18 items to try, I didn’t try them all honestly, because my tummy couldn’t handle that much.

We started with the smoked salmon and avocado potato skins, loaded chicken and veggie quesadillas.

The smoked salmon on potato is a new idea, honestly preferred it from the traditional ones, since i’m decreasing the quantity of bread from my diet. And the chicken quesadillas were really tasty.

Followed by Quinoa salad and Asian beef salad

Then wings were flying on the table, we tried  traditional wings tossed in buffalo mild sauce, grilled wings tossed in citrus pepper sauce and boneless wings tossed in garlic parmesan.

There were also American Artisan bread also, but I honestly didn’t taste them, to leave place for the real deal burgers!

We were surprised by the American, the bistro burger, and the Nippon chicken

And the most appetizing item for me is in the hearty sandwiches section, the pulled pork & slaw, miam..miam… the club sandwich was really good also, you could see the cheese melting….

A good meal has to end well, especially with the authentic cheesecake and the caramel lazy cake!

The new menu has a really wide variety of items and is a must try!

The Silly Spoon!

While I was checking the new Winter collection by Alice Eddé, there was  the opening of “The Silly Spoon” which is located just facing Green & Glam, Achrafieh, Zahret El Ehsan.

Owned by the two sisters “Lea Majdalani Ayoub” and “Jessica Majdalani”, The Silly Spoon is a fresh and contemporary tableware and home accessories store. Charming and seductive from the moment you walk into the store, tableware pieces and accessories catch your eye at every corner.

Lea and Jessica handpicked every item with today’s modern style in mind, making sure there’s something for everyone. The Silly Spoon is filled with an elegant and enchanting selection of pieces.

My favorite section was the tea sets of course, they have mugs with different sizes and colors.

If you’re around, you have to drop by and check their lovely collection!

The new menu is here… at Crepaway!

I was invited to try the new items on the menu at Crepaway, and all I can say is Very Well done Chef!

A lot of new items were added to the menu, from starters, salads, burgers, sandwiches and dessert!

As starters my sister and I tried the Onion Kings (= Onion rings) and Crunchy Bites (Shrimps with tartar and cocktail sauces)

Then we tried the new and revised Rasta Pasta

Rasta Pasta

Digging deeper, we tried the Cordon Blues burger and the sea food club sandwich

The Cordon Blues is a heavenly burger, the meat hides in it melting cheese, and carrying on it some more cheese, bacon, and onion rings…. You can’t get enough of each bite ❤

To end it the right way, we tried the Munchmallow and the Melteaser!!

The Munchmallow was good, but the Melteaser was..oh so orgasmic! A true heaven on earth dessert, it is a MUST TRY!! ❤

It was a great pleasure to try the new items, thank you Crepaway for this wonderful and tasty experience.

Did you try any of the new items? Which one is your favorite?

Goodbye Summer Party on the top of Square Lounge!

I am a summer person and it’s really hard for me to say goodbye to the season that is full of life, activities, parties and fun.

I should have posted this post a while ago, because the party took place at the end of September, but I still don’t want to let go…

Movenpick Hotel’s goodbye summer party was on top of the heap! We were well welcomed at the door of the hotel, with a special setting of the living fountain romanesque statue to take pictures, then we were accompanied to the Square Lounge.

The Square Lounge was full of good vibes, amazing beats and delicious bites.

Enjoying the breathtaking sea view, we were also entertained with acrobatic art and cute memes.

It was a splendid evening, wishing Movenpick Hotel a great winter season!
